Fuel pump treatment

Post by 4x4M38 »

The recommendation for assembly is treating
diaphragms with kerosene. I am guessing
that assumes a fairly quick return to service.

For someone rebuilding the fuel pump then
putting it on a shelf for maybe months
before in service is that still valid?

Should a thin layer of motor oil be applied
instead? Maybe a canned chainsaw gas/oil
blend hopefully lacking ethanol?

Thanks!

I wondered the same thing when i rebuilt my dual pump. I ended up installing it dry.... Fingers crossed as its sitting on the shelf and will not get used for months.

TM 9-1828A Page 119 Para. 92 a (6) says "soak in kerosene or fuel oil". Neither will evaporate completely and both will leave an oil residue in the diaphragm. Should not be an issue.

That is what I read Wes. Sounds good.

Fuel oil in 1950 was diesel or heating oil?
