M38 tail gate

Post by JahRafa »

Question about the tailgate on the M38. Was is bolted shut or was it held close by the chains or did it have both?

Thank you

Bolted shut. The tailgate held the gas can and spare tire.
As such, it was non-functional as a tailgate and along with a few
other oddities was a by product of the CJ3A heritage of the M38.

Take care,

the bolts holding the tailgate closed were special for that as seen in my photo section.

There is one on eBay right now but I'd try Midwest Military, Army Jeep Parts
or another of the vendors first.

Note most everybody has a minimum
shipping charge. For that and the size of the
box, look around for a few other items you need
and buy at the same time to make the freight
reasonable.

Take care,
