I am trying to remove the gear shaft retention nut on my T90 in order to separate the transmission and transfer case. I have tried a 12pt 1 1/4 socket and it is a little small and does not fit over the nut. A 34MM fits a little loose. Is there a recommendation for the correct tool for removing the retention nut?

Is there a reason you have not tried a 1 5/16" or 1 3/8" six point socket yet? I forget which but if you take an adjustable wrench and snug it up on the nut then measure the gap you will have the correct socket size needed.

And might as well buy an impact socket while you are at it.
Disassembly will be simpler down the road.

Good advice, thanks guys. Wes, I used an adjustable wrench to measure the nut, and it turns out that it is 1 5/16. Thanks for the help!
