I was going to reline my emergency brake and possibly my clutch and brake shoes. Seems like a much cheaper way to go plus I get a new tool!

Does anyone know where to get the material for relining the clutch, emergency brake and brake shoes (M170 or M38A1)?

I found the relining material for the hand brake at Walcks (like 9.00 for the kit) He also had the lining material for the brake pads (18.00 or so for each axle or 36 complete) I have to verify the brake pads are correct. I found the clutch material for $12.00 at Surplus City.
I bought a rivet setter at the place Wes suggested for $15.00 and 100 rivets for $5.95
So I can re line all of my stuff for the price of the hand brake shoe assemblies ( NOS ). It feels like Christmas!
Also Zane helped me on a Generator to Regulator cable vendor and tips for valve guides!

I am looking to re-line the parking brake on an M38A1. Does any one know what size rivets were used or maybe a part number?

Walcks kit has the rivets in it. $8.95

If you just want the rivets you could call them and ask what they are putting in the kits.

Wes, I tried to figure out what tool you were talking about on that site. Can you help me out by giving more details of this tool? I think I want to try to go this route.

Will that very one do the job for our type of brakes or do you have to buy a separate setting pin for our rivet size?

Yes you can improvise with many alternative tools. The tool I posted I have used since the early 60's and it has several advantages. One you don't need a helper to hold the shoe. Two the punch used in the tool set to set the rivet has a convex recurved head that more smoothly rolls the edge of the hollow rivet over the edge of the work. The punch in the kit for removing the old rivets makes very quick work of it without leaving any scars on your metal parts. Those rivet are quite large but then again so is that tractor shoe.

I'm with Wes on this one,the video says to get your wife or girlfriend to help. I'm thinking my wife would not be happy if my girlfriend was holding my shoe while I riveted.
