Guys'

Thanks for all the advice. MC60976, while out of time, starts and holds idle. The stripped stud was replaced with a threaded insert and the mashed head gasket is no more!!! I stopped working on her for the night, I am too excited and do not want to rush anything tonight.
Wes and Ryan thanks a million or $3K however you look at it. Now that she runs I can really spend some dough!! Thank You to everyone who keeps willysmjeeps.com up and running. This is a great site and you do a great job.

Thanks again,

Scott

Hello Scott,
It is sweet music to the ears isn't it?

Wes,

There is some hesitation from idle but then she runs fine. Could the mixture be too rich?

If the idle is smooth and the cruise RPM smooth and steady but it stumbles when you quickly advance the throttle then either you have a malfunction with the accelerator pump or your idle mixture is to lean. You haven't told us which carb you are using and it's status, IE recently overhauled or very used etc.

Wes,

It is a rebiult WO. It only stumbles from idle.

Then most likely the accelerator pump is not adjusted correctly, or it's linkage is broken/not connected, or it's seal disc on it's plunger is bad.

With the engine NOT running and the metal horn cover removed from the top of the carb and the choke flapper wide open you can look into the bore of the carb, then manualy move the accelerator linkage from the idle stop to wide open position and you should observe a steady stream of raw gas squirting into the bore as the linkage is moved.
