I made a little progress this week. Got the under side of the body painted and the body sitting on the frame today. I still have a little tweaking to do on it before I can bolt it down though. The MD Juan floor pans are still giving me trouble. Found that the gas tank well is riding about 1/2" on the frame rail(won't let the body sit on the mounts on the driver's side), the MD Juan gas tank is about 1/2" too high on the trans hump (seat isn't sitting on the floor), and the cowl support (?) part that bolts to the frame (where the pedals go through the floor) wasn't made correctly (my clutch pedal is rubbing pretty hard on it). My driver's side front spring has about 5/8" less arch than the right side and the driver's side front frame rail is about 1/2" low. At least the NOS fenders fit right the first time! Now I'll have a week back at work to ponder what to do with it next week when I'm off again. I guess I need to order a few more rattle cans for the small parts and hard to reach places so I'll have that ready to go next week.

Can you photo document the MD Juan tub fitment issues and send me the photos and a short narrative for each? It will help the next 20 restorers thinking on going with the imported tub.

Where'd you find NOS fenders?

An older ex Fire Dept. chief had a stack of them behind his shed. Did you notice the factory sticker remnants where the T.P stencil goes? They also had a sticker on the inside. Most of them were right side (he had 7 fenders). He also had an NOS top, side curtains, and doors that I didn't buy for $150 (yeah, I know). I responded to an ad for a military trailer, which turned out to be a rusted out M100. I ended up buying the trailer and 2 fenders for $150! He also gave me a big box full of Krispy Kreme apple and cherry pies! I remember where he lives, but not his name. I've been thinking about riding up there to see if he still has the stuff, but he's about an hour away, and it's hard to find the time. Now that I think about it, I need to look him up!

Yeah. I'd love to have some fenders. At $150 a pop, I'd even pay for you're gas up there. If you find anything out about him, let me know.

Nooo - I got the trailer and 2 fenders - for $150 total! I think I will go check on him to see if he's still alive for one, and see if he still has the stuff. He also had an 'A1 that he and his son had restored about 8 years earlier (it was sitting outside with paint peeling off and this was about 10 years ago). It wasn't for sale at the time, or at least he didn't offer it for sale.

This shows that the brace is barely on the frame and the clutch pedal is rubbing pretty hard on the brace. It's gonna need a little encouragement from a BFH.
The gas tank neck is way off without shimming up on the back corner near the side of the body. MD Juan tank from Omix Ada. It is also about 1/2" taller, doesn't have the metal tab to hold the wiring, and there is no way to hold the strainer in the neck. Try to find NOS before you buy this!


Notice the floor panel alignment. I'm gonna have to actually cut the piece around the steering column to fit the seal.
With the gas tank shimmed up where it needs to be, all the seat mounting points except on the door jam will have to be shimmed 1/2".
The MD Juan rear panel looked good until I put the rear floor in. Then I could see that the verticle braces were about 3/8" short. I had to bend the floor up and the braces down a hair to tack the braces. The rear floor was US made, bought from Classic Enterprises, and was a perfect fit.

My son and I had the exact same problems with the M D Juan fuel tank. We shimmed the seat and made the other adjustments with a 4lb. adjustment tool. I will not buy another M D Juan product, unless that is all thats available.

I could use a right side fender, like said before if you go up there I will pay your gas aswell!

If he's got them, I'll definitely pass them on to group members first - I'll keep the canvas though
